Jouney to IMI Part-1

Well , here we are after a long !!!!!!

I promised to share my test and interview experiences and how i finally made it to one of the best b-schools in india

My Cat exam was on 1st -dec -2009 , very pleasant day in pune. My paper was in afternoon so woke up late in the morning :) !!!! Was trying to be as calm as possible , so washed the pair of clothes i wanted to wear for the exam and was listening to music.

Shayad i was too calm so was very sleepy :) May be was the effect of lunch :P. Anyhow went to center reached there around 2:15-2:30 pm , So an hour to go was watching other people going through there preparations and chit chats before the exam.My exam was in College of Engineering Pune.

I always like to stay silent and listen to others , could see dreams in every ones eyes there.Every one wanted to do something , be succesful. It felt great , that i was going to be part of 2010 CAT history.

At around 2:40pm , we were taken inside the facility , there first we had to deposit our belongings like cellphones etc

I didnt bring my cellphone so , didnt deposit anything , and went upstairs to the second floor where for registeration. A line was formed outside the lab , where one by one we entered and got ourselves registered. We were all very apprehensive as on the previous day , servers went down in the Lab, everyones paper was cancelled

The prometric people were also quiet nerves and told us to pray and hope nothing goes wrong

Anyhow after registeration , i was alloted my seat and was told not to talk to anyone and dont even look in any other direction other than the PC ahead

Well my system was fine and lot of space was there , so was quiet happy , onle problem was the height of the system,As it was kept over the processor so the height was a problem.

There was still around 30 mins to go , so i slept for 20 mins :P, yup i did, it was 3:00pm, and we had nothing to do

At 3:30 tutorial started ,and i went through it , i found the UI quiet helpfull except for the quit button and next button

After 15 mins , i started the test the sections were according to my preference, VA being first ,Second DI\LR and last being my doom Quant :P

Attempt around 45, was quiet happy , till the time i went out of the room and heard that almost every one had attempted more than me :(

I thought no problems , may be next year :)

Now for the journey first interview at Symbiosis , CAT result was still 15 days away.

SITM was the last hope for me i felt , as CAT se hope kam thi. So had prepared hard for it

Sara telecom wala GK rut liya tha :P, and luckily it helped.

On the day , again was trying to calm the nerves . We were taken to campus by college bus :). Nice suit wearing seniors welcomed us and took our attendance , so as to find out who was missing

After 30 mins , we reached the campus . The road to lavale campus is hilly and was beautiful.Full of trees and mild cool air of february was blowing accross the face. The campus was even better, situated at the hill top , view was looking into the valley from where we came to the campus.

After the initial registeration process , seniors showed us the flash presentation they had prepared . I was very impressed by one thing, the entire process of GDPI was managed by the students themselves , and was well managed.

I met many fellow aspirants, was chit chatting with them and the seniors and also with cute gal who was in our panel :P

I also met a fellow infoscion and a dear friend , whose name btw is also Abhishek :).

We were offered snacks and tea, which i was tempted to eat, but thought stomach problem is not good to have at this moment of time

In the process there were three rounds , GD , Extempore (which i totalllllllllllly hate :( ... ) and a PI

In our GD panel there were around 10 people . on the evaluators seat , there was an old guy was the registrar of the college and very strict looking banerjee madam, about whom we were warned by the seniors as being very strict :P


GD Topic was about"Should we talk to pakistan"

I was in favour so presented my point of view, After 10 mins , we were each given 30 secs to summarize


Then for extempor , we were told to pick up chits, my topic was weird and difficult, any how i was given 3mins to think . I blabbered something for 2 mins and concluded

Then came the PI part:

3 panelist , i would quote them as I and me

I: Tell me about yourself
me: blah blah , i do this that, hobbies........ (blabbered for around 2 mins)
I:Why MBA?(Again a standard question)
me: blah blah , better future...
I:What if you dont get into SITM, then what would you do..???
me:Job hi karunga sir :(
I:what if u get promoted to manager tommrow and you also get selected for SITM as well , what would you choose
me:Standard Answer (Would weigh my options and decide then)

That was it

MBA !!! Life long journey

MBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! every working professionals dream as they say . That converts you from a small coder to a money making machine . I also had the same dream , life @ current job sucks so much , but what can one do , when one is under pressure from parents " beta job mat chodo!!! log kya kahenge ?? pados wali sharma aunty kya kahengi !!!!! IT mein itna paisa hai bas thode dino ki baat hai mehnat karo !!!! fir onsite :)"

But unfortunately this "thode dino ki baat" continues throughout life, remember class 10th board exams, "bas thode dino ki baat hai mehnat karlo!!!!!! uske baad , non-medical ya medical milega fir life settle", ya right we all now how 11 and 12th sucked .....remember coaching classes after school ,reaching home @ dinner time and doing school assignments for next day !!!! yuck... ......... every body wants to see you in IIT JEE or AIIMS .... except yourself :P

After u failed to go to a big engineering and pass out from a second grade college.... u hassle urself for jobs ,, off-campus, on-campus, and very far-off campuses as well .. (some distant college in a far off village in rajasthan ) in month of june and july , with mercury rising to 45-46 deg celsius and thousands of students gather from different states , competing for few jobs in a big IT company...." u think arey yar kumbh ka mela to nahi hai ye !!!!! yaha apna kya hoga :)"
And once you r able to get the job !!!!!!!!!! u become a hero @ in ur parents eyes " chalo apna khota sikka kam to aya"
After a few months into the job, u realize ur trapped in AC jail far away from a place called home :(

Then you think wat i can do now, m under a bond for 1 year , where company can throw me out any time , but i cant leave before one year !!!!!!!!!!

Thats wat i thought and joined coaching classes for MBA ....:)... but i didnt know recession will come to haunt the season 2009 so much :( And so many jobless and hungry people will undermine my preparation and i will land up in no mans land!!!!!!
And who would have thought CAT will go online

I started preparation in month of August , after i gave my first mock test, my eyes opened with only 75%tile , i thought a repeat of my engineering days would happen again "Kuch ni hona mera " ;)

Two good things about an IT company is AC and Free internet(not forgetting beautiful gals offcourse:).. And that was enough for me !!!!
Even this blog m writing from office only :P... where can i go !!!! i dnt have a laptop, dont earn much na ,, r more precisly u can say .. dnt save much na .....

Anyways !!!!I started studying by staying late @ office and enjoying d 2 facilities , mostly i used to spend my weekends also @ office ... boring guy i know .. but first time in my life , i wanted to work hard !!!! so didnt mind... missed out on lot of friend's gup shup in the midst of all this !!!! whenever i used to get time , i studied and studied....

This helped me a lot !!!! my scores started to increase and i started to perform better in mock tests !!!!!
